GOODMAIL AND RPOST SETTLE PATENT SUIT, ANNOUNCE JOINT SERVICE

Goodmail and its partner Epostmarks,, a United States Postal Service Electronic Postmark® provider, are pleased to announce their newest offering, PostmarkedEmail [make this a clickable link to www.postmarkedemail.com].  PostmarkedEmail combines the protection of the U.S. Postal Service® with Goodmail’s CertifiedEmail platform to bring the trust of your Mailbox to your Inbox.  In short, PostmarkedEmail is US Postal Service protected email.

The United States Postal Service Electronic Postmark® (USPS EPM®) is an auditable time-and-date stamp service that verifies the authenticity of electronically transmitted documents and files.  Combining the USPS EPM® with Goodmail’s CertifiedEmail, PostmarkedEmail provides legally compliant email messaging that is protected by the Postal Service, the most trusted government agency in the United States.  Electronic postmarks, issued by Epostmarks, are stored in their repositories and available for verification for a period of up to seven years from the date of issuance.

In addition, proof of delivery is provided in partnership with RPost, using RPost's patented technology.

A few of the business benefits of using PostmarkedEmail include:

  • U.S. Postal Service protected email that extends the legal protections and enforcement in place today for traditional mail to email.
  • Immediate and significant costs savings in communicating with customers by moving from paper mailings to Postal Service protected electronic communications.
  • Improved green score cards by switching from paper to trusted electronic communications.
  •

PostmarkedEmail combines:
  • Goodmail’s CertifiedEmail technology that protects the recipients of email by letting them know that the message comes from a trusted sender.
  • Epostmarks’ provision of the USPS EPM® to authenticate and time-and-date stamp electronically transmitted messages that are stored in their repositories and available for verification for several years from the date of issuance.
  • U.S. Postal Services’ federal authority and protection that brings a new level of trust to electronic communications.
  • RPost’s patented Registered Email® technology that protects email senders by allowing them to prove that their message was delivered, what it said, and precisely when sent and received.
  • Goodmail customers benefit from exclusive access to RPost’s patented technology for proof of delivery and content of the email in special arrangement with RPost®.

The Technology

Sample Postmarked Email Message
Sample PostmarkedEmail Message

The PostmarkedEmail service uses a combination of our standard CertifiedEmail technology in addition to technology developed by Epostmarks and RPost.

  • The CertifiedEmail service stores an encrypted hash of each message within the message itself that is verifiable by our participating ISPs. This allows us to verify the integrity of each message sent and received. If the CertifiedEmail blue-ribbon envelope Blue Ribbon Envelope is on the message, you know that the body of the message hasn't been tampered with since it was sent. Any tampering would cause the encrypted hash and the actual message content to not validate against each other.
  • Each message that uses the CertifiedEmail technology has a unique serial number. This allows us and the sender to account for each and every message delivered, and to provide extended reporting beyond what is normally available, due to RPost's proof of delivery technology.
  • The CertifiedEmail service uses software and/or hardware at our participating ISPs. This means that the CertifiedEmail blue-ribbon envelope verification icon and the security strip in the message (where applicable) are non-spoofable. Since the CertifiedEmail blue-ribbon envelope isn't part of the message body, and requires validation by the receiving ISP, a hacker can't simply put the ribbon image in the body of their message. If attempted on a non-CertifiedEmail message, the blue-ribbon would be missing from the message list; the security strip would be missing from the message and images would not be visible and have a warning (because our ISP partners block images by default).

In addition to the benefits of PostmarkedEmail, as an add-on service, senders may also obtain proof of delivery using RPost’s patented Registered Email® technology.

  • RPost’s patented Legal Proof® technology to protect the email sender by allowing them to prove that their message was delivered, what it said, and precisely when sent and received. RPost serves as the verifier for proof of delivery and content of Postmarked Email.
  • Epostmarks as the auditable time-and-date stamp service. Epostmarks can be used to verify the authenticity of a document or file. Electronic postmarks issued by Epostmarks are stored in their repositories and available for verification for a period of up to seven years from the date of issuance.
