Want to know how CertifiedVideo stacks up against the competition? Take a look at the extensive array of features CertifiedVideo provides — and what the others do and don’t. Click “Show” to reveal more about each feature. All CertifiedEmail and CertifiedVideo features are available only at partner ISPs and inbox providers. CertifiedVideo is currently accepted at AOL only.

Click the feature name to the right to expand the definition of that item. CertifiedVideo has all the features of benefits of CertifiedEmail PLUS the ones below. To see the CertifiedEmail features, go to the CertifiedEmail comparison page.

For purposes of this comparison, "regular email" means "the message has a link to a video that is viewable outside of the message itself" (on your website), since no other provider or service can offer video-within-email like CertifiedVideo.

In-email streaming of audio/video content

Only CertifiedVideo allows true streaming audio and video within email. You won't be limited by inferior hacks like animated Gif images that can only simulate video. You'll be able to use your streaming servers to deliver the same video content you already use on your website, without modification.

Example of a CertifiedEmail message with images visible

CertifiedVideo is the only service that permits you to use true streaming audio and video within email messages.

Auto-play of content in-message (with no viewer interaction required)

Only CertifiedVideo has the capability to allow your video content to auto-play immediately upon opening the message. This is possible because our email provider partners trust Goodmail and allow our video player and the javascript that launches it to be active and functional.

Video player (the UI and playback buttons) visible and unblocked within email message

Only CertifiedVideo customers have the capability to use customized video players to control the look-and-feel of their video experience. You can use our default player or one of the popular Flash-based commercial players available on the market (upon approval and for an additional cost). Only CertifiedVideo messages can have customized video players because our messages have the Flash® code intact that is required to use the player (our email providers partners won't strip it from CertifiedVideo messages).

With CertifiedVideo, you can use our customizable player or use your own.

In-message pre-roll ads, teasers and overlays

Playback control in-message (pause, rewind content)

Only CertifiedVideo messages can have playback controls directly within the email message because only CertifiedVideo messages have the Flash® players unblocked . Your viewers will be able to pause, rewind, fast-forward (or any combination of your choice of actions).

With CertifiedVideo, playback controls are unblocked and usable. You can even configure them to show/hide specific buttons.

High-definition (MPEG-4) content

CertifiedVideo allows you to deliver High-Definition (MPEG-4) content as well as FLV, F4V, MP4, M4V, MOV (Apple Quicktime®) and MP4V formats. Only CertifiedVideo allows your High-definition content to play directly within the message without needing to click-thru to an external website.

Re-use your existing streaming video content without conversion

Unlike animated-Gif images which only simulate video (and not very well), CertifiedVideo allows you to use the exact same video content you already use on your website - without conversion/transcoding. To make your video into an animated Gif to simulate video, you'll have to go through an additional, time-consuming conversion process. Additionally, with CertifiedVideo, your video will have the audio intact - which you just can't do with animated Gif.

True-color (65M) color palette for video

Unlike animated Gif images, which are limited to a color palette of 256 colors, CertifiedVideo content can use any color palette of your choice (65M/True Color, etc). Your video content will look exactly like you expect it to, because it will look exactly like what you already use on your website.

The limited color palette is why (animated) Gif images always have lower quality.

Video content in-line with message content (video content and message content relate to each other)

Only CertifiedVideo gives you the capability to have your streaming video content inline with your message content. Your video can be related to your content or can be used as a commercial that is relevant to the topic.

Maintains viewer focus on message content

CertifiedVideo makes your email more powerful by keeping the viewer focused on your content. They won't need to click on a thumbnail that takes them to another site to view the video. They'll see everything you want and only what you want them to see.

Maintains lightweight email size (if images are not embedded/attached to message)

CertifiedVideo allows you to keep message size down without sacrificing content and creativity. Because CertifiedVideo content is streamed, your messages maintain their small size - no need to flood your customers' mailboxes with 10MB attachments.

Customized security strip with the Blue Trust Seal inside each message

When consumers see our Blue Trust Seal in the security strip above your message, they’ll have confidence that your message is from you and you alone. This non-spoofable feature is available only with CertifiedEmail.

While the security strip look and content varies by provider, the Blue Trust Seal appears in every message we help you send. It’s another exclusive feature from CertifiedEmail — and another way we’re restoring trust in email.

Use any language you like

One of the exclusive benefits of using CertifiedEmail is the ability to bypass ISP and mailbox provider content filters. That means you can send a message using any words you wish – even FREE!. With CertifiedEmail, you’re never blocked by an ISP’s or email provider’s secret content rules. You and your customers decide the content of the message, not spam filters.

Send unlimited messages per hour

Bulk email senders often get frustrated by ISPs’ and mailbox providers’ volume filters. CertifiedEmail goes around these throttling controls — not through them — allowing senders the freedom to send all that they can, as fast as they can.

Throttling control is mostly determined by the sender’s reputation level. Because CertifiedEmail messages bypass ISP volume filters, you won’t have to invest precious resources on unpredictable and costly scoring improvement.

Images visible and links active by default (no user interaction required)

Only CertifiedEmail always renders images and makes links active (and clickable) by default as soon as the message is opened. Goodmail’s partner ISPs and email providers know with confidence that CertifiedEmail is safe — and so will your customers.

Example of an email with blocked images
If you’re not sending CertifiedEmail, your inline HTML images and links are automatically disabled, so ISPs and mailbox providers can protect consumers from malicious behaviors, like phishing and spoofing.

With CertifiedEmail, our images are visible and are links active by default.

Sender accreditation

To become a CertifiedEmail sender, fill out our application form and provide Goodmail with details about the email you send. We need to know the IP addresses of your mail servers and who your ESP is (if you use one). We’ll do a background check of your company. And we’ll check your reputation and verify the information you’ve provided.

Once we’ve verified your information and determine that your reputation is within our acceptable limits, you may be accredited to send CertifiedEmail. For a list of some of the requirements to become accredited, visit the Qualifications page.

Getting accredited is not automatic. Only the safest, most secure companies will join the ranks of CertifiedEmail senders. That’s why ISPs and email providers trust us so much.

Domain authentication

One of the techniques to verify an email sender is to check the from address in the message, however only the domain name is checked in most systems.
For example, if the "from address" of a message is "example@goodmailsystems.com", only the "goodmailsystems.com" would be verified and not the username (the part before the "@" sign).

Per-message, full sender address authentication

CertifiedEmail message checking doesn’t stop at the domain name in the from address, we verify that each individual email has been authenticated and is secure.

Per-message, certification of legitimacy

CertifiedEmail is the only solution that verifies both the legitimacy of the sender and of every individual email message they send. We verify senders through an extensive accreditation process. And Goodmail does real-time message verification on each and every CertifiedEmail message.

Authentication standards alone simply can't do this, because this functionality is not within the scope of the standards. For example, the following excerpt is from the DKIM service overview, section 1.1 ("Scope"):

By itself, a DKIM signature:

  • Does not offer any assertions about the behaviors of the identity doing the signing.
  • Does not prescribe any specific actions for receivers to take upon successful signature verification.
  • Does not provide protection after signature verification.
  • Does not protect against re-sending (replay of) a message that already has a verified signature; therefore a transit intermediary or a recipient can re-post the message in such a way that the signature would remain verifiable, although the new recipient(s) would not have been specified by the author.

Real-time security checking

Goodmail uses several techniques to maintain the security of our systems and the integrity of CertifiedEmail. Some of the techniques include requiring pre-registered "from addresses" to prevent spoofing, per-customer quotas, and access control mechanisms.
