Question
Answers
CertifiedEmail is only available for opt-in only and transactional messages to existing customers. Are you able to guarantee that only opt-in, transactional and messages to existing customers will be sent via CertifiedEmail? (No prospecting, member acquisition or unsolicited email) . Explain
Yes
No

By not being able to guarantee that your opt-in list is kept separate from your other types of messaging, we will not be able to accredit your company to send CertifiedEmail.
Best Practices
Maintain separate opt-in and "other" mailing lists.
Utilize suppression lists to prevent email addresses from receiving your messages.
Honor all unsubscribe requests as soon as possible.
Definitions
Opt-in messages
Opt-in messages are email messages that a user has specifically requested from your company. The user must have been giving an option to subscribe (or not subscribe) before being added to your mailing list.
Marketing Messages
Marketing messages, like transactional messages, may only be sent via CertifiedEmail if your company has a pre-existing relationship with the recipient (i.e. they have purchased your product/service) or if the recipient opted-in to your messages.
Transactional messages
Transactional messages are generally email messages that are auto-generated by systems as a result of a user doing a transaction with your company. Examples of these types of messages include invoices, receipts and status updates. In order for transactional messages to be approved for usage with CertifiedEmail, you must have a pre-existing relationship with the email recipient (i.e. they need to be a customer of yours).
Informational messages
Informational messages are generally sent by government agencies and news organizations. Examples of this type of message would be a news alert but can also include any message where the purpose is to convey information. We generally consider newsletters to be "informational".
Prospecting, member acquisition and unsolicited email
These types of messages are the most problematic for most email senders. These types of messages cause your email reputation to be affected because they get the most complaints. Because these are generally unsolicited, they can not be sent via CertifiedEmail.
Additionally, we find that companies that send these types of email have a more difficult time passing our accreditation process, if at all.
If you send these kind of messages, you must keep your opt-in mailing list separate from your "non-opt-in" lists.

Do the email servers you use (either your own or your email service provider's) each have a dedicated/static (non-shared) IP address? Explain
If you use an email service provider, you'll need to ask them this question before continuing.
Yes
No
close this
By not having its (their) own static, non-shared IP address(es) for the mail server(s), we won't be able to look up the complaint rate and email history for your company.
To address this:
If you use an email service provider to send your email : contact your email service provider and ask them to assign a "static ip address" to your email server that isn't "shared". When they ask you why, say "We want to use Goodmail Systems' CertifiedEmail service and they require a non-shared, static IPaddress for our email server". They are free to contact our customer service department with questions.
If you use your own email server, ask your IT staff to make sure the IP address of your email server is:
Not shared with other servers
Visible to the outside world
Has your company been in business for over 1 year and is headquartered in the USA, Canada or the European Union? Explain
Yes
No
close this Company in business for over 1 year
We ask this question to prevent fly-by-night operations from sending CertifiedEmail. Additionally, companies that are less than one year old won't have enough history for us to look up.
Headquarted in the USA, Canada or European Union
CertifiedEmail is currently only available to companies that are headquarted in the USA, Canada or European Union because we need to verify the existence of your company through a major credit reporting or business identification service that serve these countries.
Is the total volume of all the email you send monthly at least 50,000 messages per month for the last 6 months with at least 15% of your email going to CertifiedEmail supported domains (aol.com, verizon.net, mail.com, etc) combined (i.e. 7,500 per month including their international affiliates) Note: If your total monthly volume is less than 50,000 messages, there may be an addiitonal cost to maintain service. Explain

Send at leat 50,000 messages monthly
We ask this question to confirm that the CertifiedEmail process would be worthwhile for your company to undertake. Companies that send less than 50,000 messages per month have difficulty reaching the level of ROI they expect. Additionally, there is not usually enough email history and verification data available for us to use to evaluate the company.
At least 15% of your messages to our partner ISPs
We ask this question to verify if using CertifiedEmail (as well as the setup process) is a worthwhile undertaking for your company. It will be difficult for you to reach your ROI expectations if you don't send enough email to our CertifiedEmail accepting providers.
Have been sending email from your servers for at least 6 months
We require that you have been sending your email from your email servers (either your own or your email service provider's) for 6 months to guarantee that we have data to evaluate your email sending practices.
How do you send your email? In order to send CertifiedEmail, you need to be using an authorized provider or email system. Explain

Email Service Provider
If you outsource your email service to an Email Service Provider, they need to be one of our approved sending partners. Refer to the list on our partner page for the most up-to-date list.
Send Yourself via Your Own Mail Servers
If you send your email via our own email server, we need to verify that your email server (MTA) supports CertifiedEmail. The following email servers support CertifiedEmail natively: Message Systems, Port25 Socketlabs, Strongmail and Tralix. Other MTAs may be usable using Goodmail-provided hosting services. Please speak to one of our representatives for help with this.
Send Yourself via Your Internet Service Provider
Sending via your Internet Service Provider is not an acceptable method of sending CertifiedEmail. In order to take advantage of CertifiedEmail, you will need to either setup your own email server with CertifiedEmail capabilities or outsource your email to an approved CertifiedEmail Email Service Provider .
