CertifiedEmail Paper Suppression Gives Businesses Legal Standing to Prove Delivery and Receipt of Notifications Electronically

For More Information

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 17, 2008 - Goodmail Systems, creator of CertifiedEmail™, the industry’s standard class of trusted email, today announced the availability of CertifiedEmail Paper Suppression (CertifiedEmail PS), a solution for consumers and businesses such as financial institutions, utilities, healthcare and insurance companies to have electronic proof that email notifications such as changes to credit terms, billing policies or delinquent notifications are served and received in the email inbox. This is the first solution that assures messages are delivered to the inbox and provides the legal standing to affect nonrepudiation where neither a business nor the consumer can deny its arrival.

CertifiedEmail Paper Suppression provides businesses a paperless solution to serving such notifications, saving not only resources but millions of dollars in paper processing and delivery costs. Through additional technology, CertifiedEmail PS enables a business to prove that a given message was sent on the specified day to the specified recipient, and the digital signature technology validates the exact content of the message. Using CertifiedEmail PS can also help financial institutions meet their regulatory-compliance obligations, including Regulation Z, Sarbanes-Oxley and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA).

"CertifiedEmail PS provides mutual benefits to both businesses and consumers. Businesses that rely on postal delivery can now enjoy the cost-savings and assurance in e-mail just as the consumer is guaranteed that such notifications are indeed received," said Daniel Dreymann, CEO and co-founder of Goodmail. "CertifiedEmail PS adds confirmed delivery assurance and legal standing to e-mail notifications, while providing an enormous cost savings.” The cost of paper notifications can range from $0.35 to $1.50 for each statement.

“The ability to deliver statements securely through email can provide enormous savings for banks and other senders involved in consumer transactions,” said Ragy Thomas, president of Epsilon’s Interactive Services group, one of the world’s largest permission-based email marketers.

CertifiedEmail Paper Suppression is the first new product built atop Goodmail’s CertifiedEmail, the industry’s standard class of trusted email that provides 100% assured inbox delivery and automatic rendering of links and images. CertifiedEmail messages are marked with a unique blue ribbon envelope icon that lets consumers know a message is real, and from a sender with whom they have an existing relationship. The legal standing that comes with CertifiedEmail PS is provided by The Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA) and The Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (ESIGN), which became a U.S. law in 1999 and 2000, respectively, allowing technology such as Goodmail’s to be used to prove authenticity.
