Goodmail Systems and GovDelivery to Provide CertifiedEmail to FBI, Department of Treasury, CDC and 150 Government Agencies
Trusted Class Email Lets Citizens Distinguish Real Messages from Government Senders
- Goodmail introduces the first domain-based whitelist service: Meeting the evolving needs of the email industry, CertifiedDomain further extends Goodmail’s leadership in standards-based certification products for trusted brands that engage with consumers via email. CertifiedDomain is the first in a new line of domain-based products to be introduced by Goodmail throughout 2010.
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 31, 2007 - Goodmail Systems, Inc., provider of the CertifiedEmail class of trusted email, and GovDelivery, the world’s leading provider of government-to-citizen email communication solutions, today announced that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. Department of Treasury, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), along with 150 other federal, state, and local government entities are now sending CertifiedEmail in citizen communications.
“We think it’s important for people receiving email updates from the FBI Web site to trust that the email is, in fact, from the FBI,” said Jim Eppard of the FBI’s Office of Public Affairs. “We send thousands of emails every day to the public. Ensuring the integrity of those emails is critical.”
Effective use of email is a key component of any federal agency’s communication strategy,” said Ron Oberbillig, Chief Operating Officer of the Department of Treasury’s Federal Consulting Group (FCG). “CertifiedEmail helps improve the effectiveness of this critical channel.” FCG, a fee-for-service franchise in the Department of the Treasury, works with federal agencies to transform public service, while facilitating the sharing of website and other best practices between private and public sectors.
Now accepted at 7 of the top 10 U.S. mailbox providers, Goodmail’s CertifiedEmail is a trusted-class delivery option offered to qualifying, legitimate commercial, non-profit and government emailers for messages to existing customers and users who specifically opted in to receive messages. Once accredited by Goodmail, these senders’ emails are delivered with cryptographically secure tokens which participating mailbox providers detect. CertifiedEmail messages are labeled with a unique blue ribbon envelope icon in the email program, enabling recipients to immediately distinguish the authentic, legitimate email messages they want to receive from those of unknown authenticity or safety.
“Goodmail is honored to be able to provide CertifiedEmail to such well-respected government agencies as the FBI, CDC, and the U.S. Department of Treasury,” said John Ouren, co-CEO of Goodmail Systems. “GovDelivery clearly understands the need for a class of legitimate, trusted email that is specially marked as such. CertifiedEmail’s blue ribbon envelope icon lets citizens know a message is real, from an actual government agency, and safe to open and act on. We are delighted to be working GovDelivery to bring the benefits of trusted email to government senders and citizens.”
GovDelivery’s email capabilities are specifically designed to meet the needs of its government clients. Its flagship product, GovDelivery Digital Subscription Management, uses a proprietary Software as a Service (SaaS) platform to provide organizations with fully-automated and on-demand communication with the public.
“Government agencies in particular understand the importance of trusted email communications,” said Scott Burns, CEO of GovDelivery. “CertifiedEmail is a unique solution that increases a citizen’s likelihood of reading official government email and directly addresses the rising problem of phishing and e-scams by specially marking messages as authentic and safe. CertifiedEmail brings the significant benefits of trusted class of email to our platform, and we are pleased to be offering it to all of our clients.”
Under terms of the agreement between Goodmail and GovDelivery, all GovDelivery client agencies and bureaus will have their email sent via the CertifiedEmail class of trusted email by default. CertifiedEmail is supported by seven of the top ten leading North American mailbox providers, including AT&T, AOL, Comcast, Cox Communications, Time Warner Cable’s RoadRunner, Verizon, and Yahoo!.
