    Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group survey underscores consumer need for 100 percent legitimate and safe email
    Goodmail Systems, the creator of CertifiedEmail™, the industry’s standard class of trusted email responded to recently published Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group (MAAWG) survey results stating that respondents rely on various signals to determine an email’s legitimacy. Respondents were asked what signals they use to indicate an email is legitimate. Overall, almost 70 percent of the respondents look at the sender’s name, followed by 45 percent who viewed the subject line. Other visual indications were found important to about 20 percent of the respondents. The report is based on 800 interviews with computer users in the United States and Canada who said they were not “security experts” and who used email addresses that were not managed by a professional IT department.

  • Increased Spam and Phishing Attacks Tops List of Email Marketer Challenges for 2009
    Even More than the Economy Restoring Trust to Email Will Allay the Majority of Email Marketers’ Future Concerns
    Increased spam and phishing attacks along with further email and image blocking by ISPs top the lists of marketer’s concerns for 2009, this according to a recent Goodmail-sponsored survey conducted by JupiterResearch.  The survey asked 202 email marketers which challenges related to the success of their email marketing initiatives over the next twelve months most concerned them. Marketers cited “increased spam and phishing attacks” as the most pending anxiety, with 53 percent of respondents calling it a top concern in 2009, followed by “further email and image blocking by ISPs” (45%). By comparison, survey respondents were less concerned about “slowing consumer spending” (40%); their ability to stay relevant with subscribers (27%), or securing adequate budget for their programs (16%). Only 11% feel that their email programs are threatened by “increased consumer preference for social and mobile communications.”
